The Office

July 24, 2015 / Uncategorized / Andria

When we were making our selections for our house, we had the option to enclose the “living room/study”, which is our office, with French doors. I thought about it, but ultimately I felt that French doors didn’t really reflect the style I was going for, so we opted not to enclose the room. I’m still glad I made that choice for the long term, but in the short term it would be so nice to have a little peace and quiet in the office.  Because the entry into the room is basically the entire wall, my choice would be to install a double track barn door system that would adequately enclose a large opening.

In our other house, the designated office space was taken over with toys and eventually we bought a laptop and got rid of the desktop computer, desk and office chair. Once we moved in to the new house and had this great office space, we had to purchase some office furniture. I started shopping around online and found a few things, but nothing really spoke to me. I figured that I’d probably find something old and in need of some love, which I would refinish.
In that tone, I started shopping. If you’ve read Cheryl’s recent post I completely second her opinion and confirm her resistance to shopping on Craigslist! I usually go all dark and start thinking, “what crazy person is on the other end of this ad?” Anyway, I digress… here’s the rest of the story….One Saturday morning I woke up and came downstairs to fix my coffee. I stumbled over to the computer to check email and on a whim I pulled up Craigslist… AND THERE IT WAS. Could it be true? Was it as awesome as the pictures showed? I hadn’t even had my coffee yet, but that woke me up. A mid-century campaign-style desk and matching credenza! Well, that started my weekend off with a jolt and two days later it was in our office batting its eyes at me. DSCF0444

The credenza is Drexel circa 1970’s and the campaign desk is circa 1960’s.  The desk matches the credenza, but I can’t identify a manufacturer.  I couldn’t be happier with the quality and overall look of the furniture. It definitely was/is better than pictured! So, one down…several more to go.
Here are my goals for the office:
1. Find a vintage globe/map
2. Decorate the credenza
3. Find a desk chair
4. Purchase or make window coverings
5. Add an area rug? Still thinking about that one.
6. Enclose the space with barn doors
