I have this cute little Christmas village. The kids love to set it up every year. BUT…it’s straight outta the 90s. Ya feel me? Cute, but dated and it needed some help.
Yeah, now that I’m looking back on these photos, I kind of cringe. I could’ve done a way better job with this set up! Oh well.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can use what I have, but give it a fresh look. So, I thought, “What if I paint these guys white???” Hmmm. Well, I got a few second opinions and the consensus was a resounding YES! So, I went for it.
I had some leftover white paint from another project and just started painting each piece with a small 1″ brush.
And here we are 2 coats later…
Big improvement, right? Now, onto the styling part…
I wasn’t happy with how I styled them before I painted them, and I was trying to update the look so I wanted to add in a few more natural elements to the scene.
First, I tried using the fuzzy fake snow with twinkle lights.
It was ok, but something was off.
Then I tired it without the snow.
Better, but too plain. (By the way, I picked up that green plaid blanket scarf in the dollar bin at Target!)
I phoned in a consult with my sister and my mom and we came up with this…
Yay for leftover garland and some battery-operated twinkle lights!
There you have it! Taking risks can pay off in your decor. If you have some of these little ceramic village pieces, maybe try a quick update with a coat of paint. If you don’t have any, you can find these readily at the Goodwill. I was just there yesterday and they are bountiful.
Happy decorating!
Looks so great! I’m running to Goodwill…brb.
