We just got back from a lovely few days at Lake Tahoe for the 4th of July. The days were full of incredible vistas, good food, fun people, and kids begging to go in the hot tub. All. Day. Long. Seth and Wade turned right around yesterday and headed to OH (Wade is staying with Andria right now!) So, it’s just me and Eli holding down the fort. I’m planning to take him to the aquarium tomorrow so he can look at whatever he wants for as long as he wants, since he won’t have to share the time with his brother. Then my sister is coming into town for the weekend. It will be adventures for all this weekend!

You’ll understand if you’re an introvert, but as much as I love hanging out with Seth, I always look forward to a few evenings by myself. Eli’s going to bed early and I plan to watch this documentary one night before my sister gets here. I’ve heard so many good things about it. I’m excited, and a little bit nervous…
It’s been 50 years since the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album was released. Maybe I was born a generation too late, but this album was practically the soundtrack of my high school years. Listening to A Day in the Life is still almost a spiritual experience for me.
This year is also the 50th anniversary of the infamous Summer of Love here in San Francisco. The De Young museum downtown has a special exhibit of the art, fashion and rock-and-roll from that socially and politically pivotal summer. I’m absolutely planning to visit this summer.
Speaking of the 60s, Seth and I enjoyed CNN’s documentary series The Sixties (also on Netflix). It gives a great overview of the social, political, and cultural setting of that era. The series on subsequent decades are also excellent.
Ironically, I ran across this blog post while I was lost somewhere in the internet rabbit hole. I absolutely need to work on improving my focus and making time to think and work deeply. Deep Work has now been added to my reading list.
Speaking of reading, I’ve got a quite a few books stacked on my nightstand these days. Here’s what I’m currently reading:
I plan to write up a review of recent reads soon, so stay tuned! There have been some good ones!
Added to my boys’ reading list are these books suggested by Design Mom. We’re always talking about courage with my boys, and try to instill a sense of wonder as we go throughout our days. These books all look so good.
And finally, the conversations I get to have with Lyft and Uber drivers is one of my favorite things about traveling. I’ve met so many interesting, industrious, and ambitious people on my rides. From a jazz musician to a Sudanese pharmacist. So this interview (again from Design Mom) totally made my day! It was fascinating to hear this interviewee’s take on his job.
Have a great weekend, folks. Hope you’re fully enjoying these long summer days!
